Picosecond Laser for Pigment & Pores
(Etherea MX)

Etherea MX is a multi-application laser platform equipped with specialised handpieces designed to interact with different layers and structures within the skin. This versatility allows treatments to be tailored based on an individual’s skin type and concerns.

At LadyGrace Aesthetics, the Etherea MX platform is primarily used to address concerns commonly seen in Asian, Middle Eastern, and melanin-rich skin types, such as pigmentation irregularities, uneven tone, enlarged pores, and textural changes. Treating darker skin types can require particular care, as higher levels of melanin can make the skin more reactive to heat-based treatments.

For this reason, we selected two key handpieces — handPICO and ProDeep 1340 nm — which use different energy delivery methods that may be considered suitable across a wide range of skin types when used appropriately.

A Structured Approach to Pigmentation, Pores & Skin Refinement

At LadyGrace Aesthetics, the Etherea MX platform is used to address concerns such as uneven pigmentation, tone irregularities, visible pores, and textural changes.

Rather than offering standalone laser sessions, treatments are approached through structured pathways designed around skin behaviour and long-term skin management. Each pathway is selected following consultation and tailored to individual skin characteristics and treatment goals.

Two advanced handpieces support this approach:

  • HandPICO – supporting treatment of surface-level pigmentation and tone irregularities

  • ProDeep 1340 nm – supporting concerns relating to dermal texture and pore appearance

Treating Both Tone and Texture

Skin concerns such as pigmentation, uneven tone, enlarged pores, and textural irregularities often occur together but may involve different layers of the skin.

For this reason, treatment plans may incorporate multiple technologies depending on individual needs. Picosecond laser treatments may be selected when addressing concerns relating to tone and pigmentation, while fractional laser technologies such as ProDeep may be considered when focusing on skin texture and pore appearance.

Depending on the individual’s skin concerns and practitioner assessment, treatments may be performed separately or incorporated into a broader treatment plan designed to support overall skin clarity and smoothness.

Why Treating Pigmentation in Darker Skin Requires Care

Pigmentation concerns can be more complex to address in Asian, Middle Eastern, and other melanin-rich skin types. This is because darker skin contains higher levels of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour. While melanin provides natural protection against ultraviolet exposure, it can also make the skin more reactive to certain treatments that generate heat.

When the skin experiences excessive heat or inflammation, it may respond by producing additional pigment. This process is known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and it is one of the reasons why careful treatment selection and technique are particularly important for darker skin tones.

For this reason, practitioners often take a cautious and individualised approach when managing pigmentation concerns in melanin-rich skin. Factors such as the type of pigmentation present, skin tone, previous treatments, sun exposure, and overall skin condition are considered before recommending treatment.

Certain technologies, including picosecond lasers, deliver energy in extremely short pulses that interact with pigment differently compared with traditional heat-based lasers. Depending on the individual’s skin characteristics, these technologies may be considered as part of a treatment plan designed to support gradual improvements in skin tone and overall skin appearance.

At LadyGrace Aesthetics, many of our patients have Asian or melanin-rich skin, and treatment plans are carefully tailored to suit each person’s skin type and concerns.

Because every individual’s skin behaves differently, a consultation allows the practitioner to assess your skin type and determine whether treatment may be appropriate for your concerns.
